NEW VENUE FOR 2008

Matlock Bath, Derbyshire

Thursday 30th October to Monday 3rd November, 2008

Main Events include:

This year we will be using a new (to us) hotel situated in the magnificent Peak District, Derbyshire. It’s central location will be much easier to get to than our previous hotels, being just 15 miles off junction 28 of the M1.

The hotel has around the same capacity as previously and has a large function room complete with bar where we will have our main meals, disco, and all our usual functions including the Miss Rose of the Year Parade, all in the same room. There is also a separate lounge with another bar for those who like to escape the disco! A smaller function room will have trade stands during the day as usual.

Other facilities include an indoor plunge pool fed by naturally warm mineral spring water, a sauna and tennis courts. There is also an Olympic size outdoor swimming pool but this will be closed at the time of year we will be there.

However, ‘our’ weekend will include the Matlock Bath Illuminations where the gardens and river banks just by the hotel are adorned with illuminated displays, the cliffs opposite are flood-lit, there are firework displays, and a ‘Venetian Nights’ pageant of decorated boats sail up and down the river.

Within a very short distance from the hotel are beautiful walks along the banks of the River Derwent and the attractive village of Matlock Bath itself is close by. A couple of miles down the road is the town of Matlock.

On the Friday evening we will have a Halloween Horror Party and on the Saturday night will be the Miss Rose 2008 Parade with prizes for the loveliest 'Rose'. There will be a disco on the Friday and Saturday nights and possibly Karaoke/talent night too on Sunday evening. For the daytimes we are planning:

Heights of Abraham group outing on Saturday:
This is a spectacular cable car ride high above Matlock Bath to a couple of amazing show caverns within the grounds at the top. A group outing planned for late Saturday morning will cost £8.75 per person (normally £10.50) lasting 3-5 hours to include the cable car ride and tours of both caverns. The base is less than a mile from the hotel.

Chatsworth House coach trip Sunday:
Perhaps most famous of all the stately homes with its magnificent gardens, Chatsworth is only 10 miles away. Subject to sufficient demand we will arrange a coach trip there on the Sunday. Cost will depend on number but we expect to be around £20 including entrance to the gardens (with optional few pounds extra for tour of house). Please indicate your interest on the booking form and we will confirm price which you will need to pay with balance of payment.

Other nearby attractions:
Arkwright’s Cromford Mill: This old mill complex now incorporates many shops including designer clothes (within short walking distance of the hotel).
Peak District Mining Museum: exhibits of the old lead mining industry in the area (also within walking distance).
Peak Rail: Steam trains from Matlock to Rowsley.
Crich Tramway Village with National Tramway Museum: Vintage trams transport visitors along cobbled streets with old buildings evoking a bygone age. Crich is only 5 miles from the hotel.

Single room supplement (only a few single rooms available): £10 per night paid with balance.

The total cost includes bed and breakfast, evening meals, entertainments (disco, etc.), and administration charges.

The balance of payment must be paid by 30th September, 2008. A reminder will be sent to you about two weeks before this either by normal mail if you supplied an SAE or by email. Failure to pay this on time could lead to your place being offered to another person.

Cancellations:
Once it has been paid, the balance of payment may be refunded in the event of a cancellation more than seven days before the weekend. The deposit is non-refundable.

All information given on the booking forms will be treated as strictly confidential. The hotel will only receive the name(s) by which you wish to be known and a room allocation.
